These BBQ beef sirloin tips are tender, juicy, and packed with smoky barbecue flavor. The beef is cut into bite-sized pieces, marinated for tenderness, and then grilled or pan-seared to get a perfect char. Everything is coated in a classic homemade barbecue sauce that’s a perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy.

  • Yields: 3-4 servings
  • Prep time: 15 minutes
  • Marinating time: 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours)
  • Cook time: 8-10 minutes
  • Total time: About 55 minutes

Ingredients

For the Beef & Marinade:

  • 1.5 lbs (700g) beef sirloin tips or sirloin steak, cut into 1.5-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Homemade BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the beef cubes with the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, onion powder, and black pepper. Toss to coat. Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
  2. Make the BBQ Sauce: While the beef marinates, whisk together all the sauce ingredients—ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and mustard powder—in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened slightly.
  3. Grill the Beef: Preheat a grill or a cast-iron skillet to high heat. Thread the marinated beef tips onto skewers if you like, or you can cook them loose.
  4. Sear: Place the beef tips on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for 6-8 minutes, turning every couple of minutes, until the beef is well-browned and charred on all sides and cooked to your desired doneness (medium-rare is great for sirloin).
  5. Sauce and Serve: In the last minute of cooking, brush the beef tips generously with the homemade BBQ sauce. Let the sauce caramelize slightly on the meat. Remove from the heat and toss with any remaining sauce. Serve hot, with sides like cornbread, coleslaw, or roasted potatoes.
