This classic Thai street food favorite features juicy ground chicken stir-fried with garlic, chili, and fragrant basil leaves. Served with a perfectly fried egg and fluffy jasmine rice, it’s the perfect mix of spicy, savory, and comforting flavors in one bowl.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 Thai bird’s eye chilies, finely chopped (adjust to spice level)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (optional, for color)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup fresh Thai holy basil leaves (or Thai basil if unavailable)
  • 4 fried eggs (sunny side up, runny yolk preferred)
  • 4 cups cooked jasmine rice

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add garlic and chilies; stir-fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), and sugar.
  5. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the chicken evenly.
  6. Toss in the basil leaves and stir until just wilted.
  7. Serve hot over jasmine rice and top each portion with a fried egg.
